We are testing Reviews using Music, Movies and Books and The Producers is more of a Musical so this will not be using the Review template... just some thoughts about the program.
Personally, I thought it was hilarious and well worth the drive to Hollywood during rush hour. It lasted just about three hours with a brief intermission. I don't know how those folks do it 6 nights per week.
I've always been a fan of Mel Brooks' work and this was classic Brooks material; Appreciating Brooks is a requirement for you to find humor where others might take offense or simply yawn.
The stars (Jason Alexander and Martin Short) did a great job singing as did the entire cast and they all seemed quite tuned to each other. Take away the funny and you still had quality vocal, dance, etc.
There were several youngsters in the audience which is not recommended. There is some foul language and sexual overtones (undertones?) which don't go too far for me but perhaps too far for some of the 13 year old kids in the audience. You're the parent, you decide.
I accidentally got tickets for the very_last_row in the balcony and was disappointed when I first arrived. But once we sat and the show began, I was thrilled with the choice. I recommend Row "Q", seats 314 and 315. The stairs end at those seats so no one is in front of you (plenty of leg room). The Pantages is so small that it really doesn't matter. I sat close for The Lion King on the main floor and I appreciated these seats much more. And they're cheaper... yippie! And with that, I satisfy yet another day of posting responsibility. Thanks for the reminder Dave!
