Bret Fausett has posted links to some disturbing events in his [typical] quality post on the lawsuit realted to the WLS and ICANN. I call the events disturbing because it indicates deference to ICANN which itself is suspect (IMO) in deserving recognition at all, let alone deference.

The WLS was clearly rejected by virtually all of those who are forced to participate in the RAA (by forced I mean, there are no viable alternatives) yet it was approved by the entity which is supposed to look out for the rest of us. ICANN has demonstrated over and over again that they are impotent with the only glimmering light surrounding their existence being their ability to stop (for now) the SiteFinder service.

ICANN has sided with corporate america in their UDRP policy and charges a ridiculous fee for each domain registered to all Registrars. But what can folks do? Nothing apparently. Clearly the overwhelming opposition to the WLS went unattended by ICANN in favor of Verisign which has the appearance of a dubious relationship on several levels.

So who saw the victory here and who the loss? Victory: Verisign. Loss: The global internet constituency. Am I surprised? No. We the people continue to get whatever is passed to us and the folks supposedly in charge of looking out for us can only be described as corrupt or complete idiots, IMO of course.
