I’m Not Questioning Your Ability, I Promise
When I’m talking with my team or my customers I tend to ask a lot of questions. Sometimes I must come across as challenging a programmer’s abilities or plain annoying to a customer but there is a method to my madness. It has never been a conscious or planned tactic of mine but it has been part of my project management “style” since I can remember. This morning I may have figured out (at least partially) why I end up being so “talkie” when discussing the various projects we tackle.
I was reading Matthias Miller’s blog and came across a short but concise post entitled Reasoning Is Reusable. The general idea is, if I understand the reasoning applied to a decision that has been made or if someone else can understand mine, that same logic can be applied elsewhere when appropriate. This may have the side effect of satisfying curiosity but that’s just a bonus.
Now that I’ve identified the usefulness of reusing “reasoning” I can apply it with purpose and prepare more of my questions in advance; I can additionally prepare to supply my reasoning in advance to discussing a decision that I’ve made.
