Need A Hotel But It Won’t Be A Marriott

It seems that the Marriott Hotel (and its family of hotels: Ritz-Carlton, Renaissance, Courtyard, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn, TownePlace Suites and Marriott ExecuStay) has decided to ban smoking entirely at its 2800+ properties. I’m a smoker so I won’t be staying at one of those locations during my trip to San Diego.

I’m not overly upset about the new policy and in fact, I love the “idea” behind it. The “idea” is, the Marriott folks made a business decision that they think will address concerns for enough of their customers. They’re betting that they’ll get more customers with this policy. The part that I love is, they *chose* to implement this policy — It was not forced upon them by the gub’mint. I’m sure other hotel chains will follow suit which will open up opportunities for yet other chains to cater to the ugly, disgusting smokers among us. Everyone gets a choice. And that’s all I really care about.
