Northern Exposure

I had quite the busy schedule last week, seeing more of my Canadian friends in a four day stretch than I’ve seen in more than a year. Monday I hooked up with Ross Rader for dinner and conversation while he was in L.A.

I spent Tuesday through Thursday in Santa Clara at ISPCon, solely to hang out with the Tucows crew… those who were able (or forced) to make the trip from Toronto. Unfortunately none of my pictures came out properly.

I’ve worked with Tucows for 6 years now but have known several moo-moo’s for nearly 10 years. Every time I meet them at an event like this I get to meet a few more people who I’ve spoken to or traded email with but never met in person. This year’s notable “new meet” was Peter Ejtel. He’s been my sales rep for domains (and other products) for years now and I did work on a project he was involved with several years ago. There’s just something about putting a face to the voice that makes you enjoy working together even more.

I also hooked up with Kim Phelan and the big boss, Elliot Noss. I suppose I work with Kim, Ross and Elliot more than all others combined so getting together to hash out ideas always bears fruit — Better fruit than we see when chatting via phone or trading email. All three of of them are inspiring speakers and passionate about their work which brings out the worker-bee in me.

Whenever we do this sort of thing I feel increased regret about my reservations about flying. To be more blunt, I regret not making flight reservations in the last several years due to my “uncomfortable” feeling about being 30K feet in the air. A story for another lifetime I suppose.

So to my northern friends: I had a great time! I appreciate every time we do it and hope to do it all again soon. Remember, it’s warm out here in Southern California.
