Garage: Restored!

We’ve been doing some renovations on the house for the last several months so my garage — My precious “Man Room”, had been turned into not much more than a storage facility. On top of that, because of the storage, I let it get kinda yucky because I had lost my normal motivation and was fine living and working in a slovenly environment.

Today I started working on a bit of a clean-up but I wasn’t too motivated so I concentrated on cleaning up old paperwork on my desk and pool table. But then Matt (from across the street) came over and started firing me up. He helped with building some of my new shelves and tearing out my old ones. Next thing I knew I was in full restoration mode; Matt was not going to let me quit until the “Man Room” shone as it once had. And now it does.

We reorganized all of my permanent storage items and made better use of existing spaces. And when we were done we dusted and vacuumed with furious detail. In the end, I have more room than I had before our inner-house renovations began.

I’m happier working in here, in this atmoshpere, and don’t hide the garage when neighbors gather. I’m sure my faithful dog Sunshine appreciates the additional bed space too.

This is a fairly fluffy post but the next time I find myself in a crowded, rundown garage, perhaps I can look back and see that some heads-down work during a single day can be fruitful and well worthwhile. Consider this a note to self: “It’s not that hard Tom, just get the ball rolling!”.
