Thump! Ben is getting a new bed.
When Ben gets in trouble (which has been a lot lately) we put him in his crib for a “timeout”. Yesterday, after trying to rip off Sunshine’s ear, he got placed in his crib to think about what he had done but he apparently didn’t think he deserved such a punishment and decided to attempt a jail break. I’m sure you can guess where this is going…
The phone rang and just after I picked it up I heard a terrible thump coming from the area of Ben’s room. I immediately knew what it was — That little turkey tried to climb out and fell to the floor. I have no idea in what manner he landed but when I dashed into the room he was on his side, screaming like, umm, like a baby that just fell out of his crib to the floor. Needless to say, it scared the crap out of me. What if he had landed on his head? Should I move him? I turned him carefully to his back and and waited for him to move his tiny limbs, checking to see if anything appeared broken. He seemed to be okay, except for being in some level of pain and apparently freaked out about what had just occurred. 5 minutes later he was running around and causing trouble again.
Later in the afternoon he was playing on Abby’s bed and managed to fall off that one too. Then he got a friendly push from a neighborhood child which caused him to hit the concrete. With all of this he managed to avoid any serious injury, likely because he’s so darn fluffy, akin to being wrapped in Charmin.
Getting Ben into a shorter bed will be much different than when we took the plunge with Abby. We were very lucky with our little girl because she would not get out of bed unless she got the A-Okay from us. When she woke up in the morning she might go as far as sitting on the side of her bed but would never get out and wander the house. Ben is a different bird altogether, being more of a Curious George than his sister (yes, I realize George is a monkey and in no way resembles a bird). Although our house is fairly baby-safe there are still plenty of methods to be used for getting into trouble and potentially dangerous trouble. I may have to get a shock collar and one of those invisible barriers to surround his room so I can be sure he’ll remain in place, even if he wakes up in the middle of the night and is inclined to roam the palace.
