Quick Catch-up in a Bounce Around Sorta Way

I haven’t posted in quite a while and a lot has happened over the last month. Work continued on our kitchen and finally wrapped up at the beginning of August. We had our niece out for a month from Utah and took her back with us to Grandma’s place in the middle of July. Kerri and I left the kids there and went on to Auburn, California for a wedding (pics in the July 2005 Photo Album). The wedding was a great way to get together with an old friend and was our first two-nighter alone since Abigail was born 4+ years ago.

Abby and I joined a bunch of neighbors for our annual Dads and Kids Camping Trip. This year we went to Lake Isabella for some water skiing, fishing, motorcycle riding and general Dad/Kid fun. Our first boat broke in a very bad way after just five minutes of motoring around and the second boat never made it because neighbor Tim ended up having to cancel for a family emergency. We’re a flexible group and didn’t miss a beat having to stay close to shore — We swam and fished and enjoyed hanging out together. The other neighbor Tim (T.Q. to the locals) got in a bit late so he stayed an extra day, heading north to send his kids down the Kern for some rafting after the rest of us packed up. He’s braver than me having sent both of his girls (one of them Abby’s age) down some pretty wicked rapdis rapids, or so the story goes.

We made it up to Jamie and Diana’s place in Bear Valley Springs for a weekend, mostly to see Keeley who had recently broken her tender little leg. It’s difficult to see a four year old in that condition but as everyone remarked, they adapt so quickly at that age and simply live life with the temporary hindrance, leaving the complaining to us adults. We fished and played with the horses and hit a few golf balls while avoiding anything that might remind us of the working world we had left behind.

Two of the girls I work with on various Tucows projects flew out for a day so we hooked up and had dinner/drinks at The Elephant Bar in Simi Valley. One I had met before (Kim) and the other I had only worked with via phone (Rahat). It’s amazing how different and more enjoyable work is when you’ve actually met the folks with whom you interact regularly. There are several folks I’ve worked with for years that I’ve never met. Weird, huh?

I had a crazy deadline for a large project that Paul, Brad and Matt somehow pulled off, just in time.

Kirk Nelson, one of my oldest and dearest friends, announced that he was (Finally!) getting married. I get the pleasure and honor of being his best man and am eager to get involved. The thing with weddings though is that they’re so far away from the time you are first informed so I’ll need to practice my patience for a bit.

And finally, I’ve made the appointment to have my boyz disabled. You know, a little slice, tug, snip and tie? Self inflicted No Mo Baby Syndrome? A vasectomy silly! If the doctor has WiFi in the office I’m going to be live blogging the operation. Not really. Even though they only give you a “local” I’ll likely still be passed out because, I mean, they’re going to be cutting down there.

If you’ll pardon the pun, this is just a snippet of what went on over the last month. It sure was a busy one.
