Amazon Prime™: “All You Can Eat” Express Shipping. Found this little gem on Slashdot and I was taken by how simple and brilliant it seemed. There are at least a couple of interesting points that I came up with but Amazon surely has bigger plans.

First, if I pay my $79/year for a free upgrade to express 2 day shipping I may not order enough product to reach the difference as compared to their normal free shipping with orders over $25. Free money to Bezos! Second, if I do order that much stuff to make it worthwhile, I’ve ordered a bunch O crap from Amazon.com instead of Buy.com or other major retailers. Advantage: Amazon. I’m the type that would prefer not to worry about shipping while also ordering stuff way too late and having to pay extra fees to get my schtuff quicker so I’d pay the money. And now I’ll be shopping at Amazon more often than I otherwise normally would. But I’ll still compare prices and if things don’t work out properly, I’ll not order through Amazon. Things are usually close enough in price that Amazon will win the business more often than not.

This is no huge deal (yet) but I do enjoy seeing this out_of_the_box thinking and again, I think it’s brilliant.
