Can you live without a pulse?

An interesting snippet on /. about potential advances in artificial heart development. The idea is that there’d be a continuous flow of blood at a single rate versus the pump/rest mechanism of the natural heart. Sounds cool. But the main reason for this entry is one funny comment which follows the post. The post ended with the question: “How would your life be different without a pulse?” And a reader responds: “I would have had much more in common with my ex-wife”. I don’t know why this made me laugh so hard an aloud but it did. I actually made my daughter trip up when my unexpected outburst rumbled through the house.
