Just What Is Going On With Mozilla?
Before I get started, you should know that I am a habitual conspiracy theorist, a known fault of mine and probably a more polite way of nodding to the notion of true paranoia.
I find it interesting that AOL bought Netscape a while back but continues to use MSIE for its browser engine. And not too long ago, when I thought AOL would transform their engine to a Netscape-based system, they signed a contract with MS to continue using MSIE. And now all the talk about funding/staffing for Mozilla going away. Interesting.
<!–Begin Paranoia –>
Even while MS was being “hammered” for its anti-competitive practices, were they engaging in another scheme of similar nature? Did AOL and MS conspire to not compete with each other on certain fronts? Did AOL agree to kill their browser in exchange for some MS concession?
<!– End Paranoia As Much As Possible –>
It does seem silly to me that such a deal would take place because now that Mozilla is Open Source and given the hatred by many for MS, the browser should be assumed to continue and possibly gain in popularity. But these large companies are not above making obvious mistakes. So who knows? I’m curious. And I’ll believe whatever the heck I want too, so there!
